Nate has a number of passion projects that support social impact efforts both locally and more broadly. 

He is passionate about social justice and equity and has been an active voice for inclusion and the disenfranchised.

He is an active contributor to the impact investing ecosystem, working to shift power. He also is an ambassador for the social "intrapreneur" movement of organizational change agents for good.

 

His musings also include exploring the DC food scene, travel photography, and inspiring conversation over the proverbial (and usually literal) dinner table with friends and family.

Halcyon Incubator

Mentor and Selections Committee Advisor

Nate has worked with the DC-based social enterprise residential incubator since Halcyon's inception in 2014. 

Nate pioneered Deloitte's inaugural partnership with Halcyon that has provided strategic advisory services to over 60 early stage ventures/ social entrepreneurs utilizing over 60 high-performing consultants and over 200 employee volunteers. 

Nate serves both as a mentor and Selections Committee advisor.  He also has collaborated with Halcyon leadership on key thought leadership to catalyze the broader social enterprise ecosystem. More information on thought leadership →

SEED SPOT

Entrepreneur Mentor

Nate has served as a mentor for the SEED SPOT's DC program since its launch in 2016, formally advising two early-stage start-ups.  

SEED SPOT surrounds new entrepreneurs with education, training, support, and connections to take their concepts from idea to scale.

Nate was named the 2017 Mentor of the Year for his work with the program and its participants. He received the award at a packed Warner Theater at the summer 2017 DC Demo Day. More information on Demo Day →

Nate serves on the Steering Committee of the DC Civic Innovation Council that coordinates social and financial resources for effective collective action, working towards a more equitable and resilient DC.

More recently, Nate has served as a:

Judge, Women Deliver 2019 Social Enterprise Challenge. Women Deliver is a leading global advocate that champions gender equality and the health and rights of girls and women. As part of their Women Deliver 2019 Conference in Vancouver, Canada, the world’s largest conference on gender equality, they launched a social enterprise challenge to highlight leading organizations focused on transforming the lives of girls and women.

Selections Panel, 2018 and 2019 Camelback Ventures Fellows.  Camelback Ventures supports innovative, diverse leaders ready to take their social impact vision to the next level. Camelback Fellowship is a six-month program that supports the development of both founder and venture. Camelback provides coaching, capital, and connections through the Fellowship

Judge, 2018 Global Social Venture Competition.  The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) empowers the next generation of social entrepreneurs by providing them with mentoring, exposure, and over $80,000 in prizes to transform their ideas into ventures that address the world’s most pressing challenges.

Saung - A Narratale Production

Social Impact Measurement

Nate provided social impact consulting advice for the production of Narratale's Saung film.  

The film is set in Myanmar and follows twelve-year old Danton, a city boy, who has seen more tragedy than most in his lifetime. Danton is suddenly taken away to live on ancestral lake with his estranged grandfather. With his beloved tape recorder in hand, he learns he must listen to the sounds of the past to hear the future.

Saung's mission is to improves lives in Myanmar through creative expression. In 2015 Narratale Productions and the Inle Heritage Foundation formed a partnership to nurture the local community through the making of this short film. The team blended rich storytelling, film experience, and community engagement to form the film.

Open Arms Worldwide

Past Board Director, Treasurer

Nate's social impact journey can largely be attributed to his early transformational experiences working with Open Arms Worldwide in Assis, Brazil, serving at-risk youth.

Open Arms partners with Christian churches to implement and maintain gospel-based programs to bring hope to at-risk children in the church’s local community.  More information on its efforts →
